Hermes Alegre
Bachelor of Fine Arts in Advertising, Philippine Women's University.
Hermes Alegre is well-known in art circles for his beautiful interpretation of the Filipina maiden. He has been identified with the portrayal of the Filipina that is frankly seductive and alluring, shrouded with a quiet sense of mystery.
Alegre shapes his aesthetics along a romantic vein with a kind of self-absorbed look recognized in the faces of Alegre's women, even when the subject seems to stare back at the viewer. The Filipina is observed as a specimen of tropical beauty, heightened by the surrounding visual elements-a thicket of vegetative growth, dense foliage and greenery.
Alegre's merging of nature and maiden are renditions marked by an extreme stylization, a bravura confidence in the eloquence of his brushstroke with sharp contours and angles of poses.
