Vincent Padilla
Born September 27, 1976, San Juan, Philippines
Masters & Bachelors Degree in Painting, University of the Philippines
Padilla is a bemedalled painter, having won the top prize in the UP European Languages On-the-Spot Painting Contest. Shortlisted as one of the top finalists in the 2004 Philip Morris: Asean Art Awards Bangkok Thailand. 2003 Jurors Choice', Philip Morris Philippine Art Awards.
His works focus on the pillar which is a continuation of his long fascination witht he constructive and redemptive duality of space and the weight of its symbolic force in the visual arts. The pillar is an ingenous architectural technology of greco-roman origin that simultaneously creates, defines and challenges spacial boundaries with its inherent functionality on the one hand, and its profound semiotic evocation of strength, force, power, balance and control on the other.
