Winnie L. Go
Potter, Paul Davis (Australia) & Jon Petty John Workshops (Philippines)
Winnie's technical competence in pottery brings out the pleasing primal quality and movement of her pieces. Her respect and careful consideration for the uniqueness of clay has given each work a distinct personality. She works with qualities specific to different types of clay, which often affect how a piece is created.
Winnie gives integrity to her medium when she lets the clay speak for itself. Hence a piece will not be entirely covered in beautiful glaze; a portion showing the clay's unglazed texture will always be present.
For Winnie, the beauty and spirit of something made by hand, carved and shaped, emphasize the joy of creating. Although some of her pieces are thrown on the wheel, Winnie's works are mostly handmade by coiling and rolling, processes which she feels embody the root and essence of form. Handmade objects celebrate individualism, an aesthetic that values patience and celebrates humanity in objects.
