The exhibition, the brainchild of Melannie Syquia-Hizon of ArtSentralAsia.com aims to bring Philippine art to a wider audience.

Says Ms. Hizon, 'The most sought after contemporary Philippine art never leaves the Philippines because old and new works are snapped up quickly by private collectors. Through this exhibit, we want to give collectors and art lovers across Asia the opportunity to see and collect outstanding Philippine art.'

'The artists we choose for our exhibits are the best and the brightest of their generation. They are multi-awarded in both local and international art competitions. But first and foremost, these painters are not prolific, so their art works are hard to come by,' stressed Ms. Hizon.

'The works of BenCab, Magsaysay-Ho, Luz, Malang and Co, and emerging artists Marcel, Mallari, Allan Jay Balisi and Alicdan have waiting lists for their new work,' Ms. Hizon adds.

BenCab and Arturo Luz are two of the Philippines' living National Artists for the visual arts known for their expressionist figurative and semi-abstract linear works respectively. They have exhibited extensively throughout the major art centres of the world.

Anita Magsaysay-ho and Mauro Malang, are two of the Philippine's most important twentieth century modernist painters. Both artists were recently conferred the Presidential Medal of Merit for the visual arts.

The works of these masters are keenly awaited when they are auctioned off in Christies, Sotheby's and Larasati Auctioneers.

Alongside these national icons are the next generation of master artists.

Marcel Antonio, is one of the most important young painters in the Philippine art scene. He has had both critical and mainstream success for his vivid modern expressionism and mysterious themes. His works are sought after in international galleries and works auctioned in Christies, Sotheby's and Larasati.

Joy Mallari's last two exhibitions in Manila were sell-outs. Her whimsical and colorful art works, brings out the surrealness in life. She is a consistent Philip Morris National Art Competition top prize winner.

Christian Christian Tamondong's works depict an intensely colourful and enchanted world of child-like spontaneity. His works have been exhibited Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand.

Soler Santos and Jojo Lofranco, are two of the country's critically acclaimed abstract painters, whose works are widely regarded for their colourful palettes on canvas. Soler has been a consistent top three winner in the Philip Morris Art Awards. While Lofranco is an Art Association of the Philippines Awardee.

Allan Jay Allan Jay Balisi is a consistent winner in various national art competitions. His distinct style catches the imagination of all those who lay eyes on the vibrant colors and animated figures.

The multi-awarded Clairelynn Uy brings the definition of Pop Art to a different level as she draws inspiration from popular and commercial cultural icons. Her bright colors brings out the realism in each artwork she creates.

Wilfredo Alicdan's highly-geometric, colorful figures, literally pops out against a background of a solid but extremely vivid color. His artworks have served as the main cover of many UNICEF cards all over the world.

Art Sentral Asia's exhibitions are no ordinary art shows. They are exhibitions that reach out, educate, and inform art lovers and collectors about the meaning and inherent value of Philippine art. By doing so, it aims to reach out and promote cultural and educational interaction and understanding within a diverse community.

Convergence: Faces of Filipino Contemporary Art is in association with Royal Plaza on Scotts, Unilever Asia, GoodNewsPilipinas.com, PSA International, Tiger Airways, Philippine National Bank (Singapore), Larasati Auctioneers.

The exhibition is supported by the American Women's Association, Friends of the Museum, The Filipino Ladies Group, The Philippine Cultural Society (Singapore), The Filipino Association of Singapore and the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
