Eyetouch
Recent works of Manjeet Shergill
February 12 to March 9. 2009
Art Space, Royal Plaza on Scotts
Singaporean artist Manjeet Shergill returns to the Asian art scene in 2009 via her 1st Solo Exhibit at the Art Space of the Royal Plaza on Scotts in Singapore.
The exhibit entitled "Eyetouch: Recent works of Manjeet Shergill" will be presented from February 12 to March 9, 2009.
Manjeet Shergill describes Eyetouch as "light and colour, shape and shade. Eyetouch is decoration and disguise, faith and fantasy. It is darkness too, and tears - everything except blindness."
Manjeet began her career in art when she decided to follow her inner calling and joined St. Patrick's Art Centre (now LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts) started by the late Brother Joseph McNally.
Manjeet was among the first batch of art students to attend St. Patrick's Art Centre. Having completed her course there, she continued studying art with various different artists.
Manjeet Shergill has exhibited her work in Berlin, Bangkok and London.
One art writer describes Manjeet's works as "bold, bright canvases with their blocks of colour are simplistic at one level, but on another they suggest something of greater subtlety. The colourfields are made up of delicate strokes that create a feel of texture, and creates a background of depth."
Today, Manjeet apart from painting, runs her popular Creative Art Workshops. Conceived and developed more than a decade ago, the workshop has been conducted for a wide range of participants over the years.
Over time, Manjeet has consistently updated and honed the programme so that it has become increasingly relevant to the general needs of a lay public desiring to gain an educated and intelligent insight into art. Her workshops run over 6 weeks of 2-hour sessions.
Eyetouch is organized by Art Sentral Asia in cooperation with Shergill Studio and Royal Plaza on Scotts. For more information and a preview of the art pieces log-on to www.ArtSentralAsia.com, or email artsentralasia@yahoo.com
